TOOLING ENGINEER NEEDED - LANSING, MICHIGAN AREA

A Leading Automotive Supplier in the Lansing, Michigan area is in need of a Tooling Engineer. Preferring Candidates with a Journeyman's Card in Tool & Die. Looking for Candidates knowledgeable in working with Progressive & Transfer Dies. Previous Tooling Engineering Experience Needed. Automotive Metal Stamping Expertise Required. Preferring Candidates experienced working with Dual Phase Material.

This is a Full Time, Permanent, Direct Hire Position offering Competitive Compensation, Bonus Potential, Good Benefits, Paid Holidays and Paid Vacation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform scheduled and unscheduled tool and die repair/improvement/maintenance activities
Employ various technologies including, Sheet metal blanking line, and Transfer metal Stamping Presses, Full responsibility for the control, quality, throughput, and safety of the tool & die process
Ensure all Die Tooling is built to the Company's Standards in a timely manner while meeting and or exceeding our customer Quality expectations
Responsible for Die Related Launch activities (design reviews, buyoff activities at die shops and home line)
Ensuring all new tooling meets safety and throughput goals
Ensure dies are designed and built to the maximum capability of press SPM
Responsible for Engineering Change activities (quoting, outsourcing, design reviews, buyoffs and run offs at home line, keep tracker of engineering change activities)
Continuous improvement leader for material saving, throughput activities, process improvements, quality improvements and other improvement plans
Work closely with Quality department and customers to improve build issues and quality scores
Works with tool & die employees on specific procedures (spotting, machining, and engineering change procedures)
Reviews departmental KPI s and determines improvement objectives
Document and assess repairs made to improvement and engineering projects
Ensure adherence to safety rules and PPE
Participation in the Layered Process Audit schedule
Participation in the Internal ISO 9001/IATF 16949 Audit schedule (applies only to certified ISO 9001/IATF 16949 internal auditors)
Capable of creating and following timelines to meet plant objectives
Manage and resolve program assignments and open issues in a timely manner utilizing the program open issues matrix
Support the plant in achieving acceptable long term capabilities

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 2 year technical degree or certificate or a 4 year Engineering Degree from accredited University or Trade School in related field

Minimum (2) years of experience trouble shooting in a Production Stamping Plant

Experience with implementation of Engineering Changes

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Mail Exchange

Understanding of statistical applications to the manufacturing process

Must be a Team oriented player & work well with others

Must be able to use and understand basic precision/hand tools

Must be able to read detail prints & order perishable details such as pierce punches & buttons, gas springs, guide pins and bushings

Must be willing to work overtime as required to maintain all Plant functions relative to the Tool Room such as but not limited to Program Launch, die repairs, engineering change timing to customer dates/requirements, etc

Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
