SUPPLIER QUALITY ENGINEER NEEDED - TECUMSEH, MICHIGAN
A Leading Manufacturing Company in Tecumseh, Michigan needs a Supplier Quality Engineer. Blow Molding or Plastic Injection Molding Expertise is Preferred. RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Supplier Quality Engineer is tasked with making sure that all products and components sourced from suppliers align with our client s defined quality criteria, such as reliability, functionality, and performance. This position centers around managing supplier quality, which includes auditing, monitoring supplier performance, and addressing any issues. The Supplier Quality Engineer will work closely with suppliers, engineering teams, production staff, and customers to resolve quality concerns, ensure compliance with specifications, and drive continuous improvement efforts. The role involves conducting supplier audits, implementing quality control measures with suppliers, and assisting production teams in overcoming supplier-related quality challenges.
- Oversee and sustain the company's supplier quality program, including conducting quality audits, generating scorecards, and performing evaluations.
- Perform supplier audits to ensure adherence to company quality standards and ISO 9001 requirements, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Establish and apply inspection criteria for incoming supplier parts, defining key characteristics, sampling plans, and measurement techniques.
- Work with suppliers to address quality concerns through root cause analysis, corrective action plans, and preventive measures to reduce recurrence.
- Monitor and report on supplier quality performance using scorecards and other metrics, sharing results with management and suggesting improvements.
- Serve as a bridge between suppliers and internal teams to ensure that supplier products meet customer requirements, managing supplier-related quality complaints as needed.
- Partner with suppliers to promote continuous improvement efforts, utilizing tools like statistical process control, process flowcharting, and lean methodologies.
- Aid in the identification and management of supplier non-conformance issues, ensuring prompt resolution and proper documentation.
- Keep supplier quality documentation up to date in accordance with Quality Management System (QMS) standards, including inspection records, audits, and supplier performance data.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and purchasing teams to ensure supplier quality requirements align with manufacturing processes and customer expectations.
- Guide suppliers in understanding and implementing the company's quality standards, offering support for quality improvement strategies.
- Provide assistance to other company locations as required.
- Perform additional tasks assigned by the Quality Manager.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor s degree in engineering or related discipline (Required).
- Certification as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or a similar qualification (Preferred).
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in supplier quality management, ISO 9001, and QMS practices.
- Proficiency with supplier quality tools, including scorecards, performance evaluations, and audits.
- Strong familiarity with AIAG core tools, such as FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA, and SPC.
- Experience with performing root cause analysis and executing corrective action plans.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T.
- Knowledge of Continuous Improvement techniques like Kaizen, Lean, and Six Sigma.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Experience with ERP systems, such as Epicor, Plex, and E2.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with suppliers and internal teams.
- Knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards a plus.
- Familiarity with tooling, molding, and CMM operations a plus.
- Experience with SolidWorks is preferred.
