Job Description

Our client is looking for IT NETWORK ENGINEER located in Metro Detroit 

SUMMARY:
The candidate will join a team tasked with supporting all network operations across North America and corporate sites. Key areas of focus include Cisco SD-WAN, LAN, and wireless access point configuration and troubleshooting. The role also involves shared responsibilities for Palo Alto and Cisco firewalls in coordination with the security team.

In addition to technical expertise, strong documentation skills are essential, including creating network diagrams and writing knowledge base articles for both technical teams and end-users. The candidate must be capable of clearly conveying technical information at varying levels of complexity, ensuring instructions are easy to follow and understand.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  •  Troubleshooting Layer 2 and Layer 3 network performance issues
        Resolve issues in timely manner.  Escalate issues to management if unable to resolve
        Serve as a point of escalation for support desk and remote IT support teams
        Assist in monitoring the performance of key technology suppliers and vendors and take corrective action when out of norm conditions develop
        Assist and maintain bulk changes via scripting and automation 
        Maintain and update the network hardware code, configurations and models
        Maintain and update network documentation
        Keeping current with new technology advancements in industry 
        Ability to travel and provide after-hours support as required
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Proven expertise in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving wired and wireless connectivity issues
  • 5+ years of relevant network support experience, including:
    • Configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco routers, firewalls, and switches
    • Strong experience with dynamic routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP)
    • Hands-on knowledge of Cisco Wireless Access Points, Bridges, and Controllers
    • Familiarity with Cisco SD-WAN and the vManage platform
    • Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls and the Panorama platform (preferred)
    • Proficiency in bulk management tools such as Ansible, SolarWinds, Python, and Cisco DNA/Catalyst Center
