We are working with a manufacturing client looking to streamline and standardize their RFQ (Request for Quote) process across Purchasing, Sales, and Engineering.
Currently, the team utilizes approximately 12 separate Excel RFQ templates depending on commodity. This has resulted in duplicate data entry, inconsistencies in how information is captured, and frequent rework due to missing or incomplete details.
The objective of this project is to design and build a single, structured Excel-based tool that centralizes data entry and dynamically generates the appropriate RFQ outputs.
Scope of Work
- Design a master Excel interface for RFQ data entry
- Centralize common customer and project information (entered one time)
- Implement dropdown-driven logic to control commodity-specific inputs
- Dynamically display relevant sections based on user selections
- Map and push data from the master input into multiple RFQ output templates
- Improve usability through structured layout, dropdowns, and validation
- Ensure the tool is intuitive and maintainable by internal users post-implementation
Key Requirements
- Strong experience building advanced Excel solutions (beyond basic spreadsheets)
- Experience creating form-style Excel tools used by business users
- Ability to structure and simplify business processes into a clean workflow
- Comfort working with cross-functional input (Purchasing, Sales, Engineering)
- Experience in manufacturing or purchasing environments is a plus
Nice to Have
- VBA or light automation experience
- Experience with process improvement or operations workflows
- Exposure to ERP environments (Plex or similar), though not required
Project Details
- Short-term engagement
- Flexible hours depending on progress and milestones
- Preference for someone who can move quickly and work independently
